Different from the rest of the Cape West Coast, Paternoster is one of few surviving traditional South African fishing villages. With its irresistible combination of pristine beaches and whitewashed charm, it is arguably one of the most magical destinations on earth.
Paternoster provides a decent traveller infrastructure, from vacation essentials to gastronomic experiences in quirky eateries, without losing its core identity as a beautifully preserved fishing village. There’s little surprise then that, 150 kilometers from Cape Town, Paternoster is a getaway magnet for visitors seeking accessible and carefree seaside quietude.
As with anywhere else, the key ingredients to a luxury break in Paternoster are the accommodation and location. We’re situated in a dreamy spot with minimal vehicle or foot traffic and vast, unbroken sea views. Given our idyllic position, our guests have private access to a beautiful patch of indigenous Strandveld, which leads directly onto Bek Bay Beach.
The guesthouse interior is characterised by functional sensibility and mellow elegance. Guest amenities include an intimacy lounge, honesty cocktail bar, a small leisure library, a beauty treatment room and complimentary afternoon tea. If you prefer time in the sun without a warm sea breeze on your skin, we also have a solar-heated, all-weather pool with comfortably cushioned deck loungers.
Expect some of the most spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying freshly prepared breakfast on the upstairs indoor-outdoor terrace area.
We serve a buffet selection of homemade muesli, creamy yoghurt and honey, fresh-baked scones, muffins or croissants with preserves, and cheese and ham. This is followed by a hot daily special, which often includes South African specialities such as our snoek (fish found off the West Coast) omelette, or you can opt for a hearty English breakfast.
Breakfast is served between 08:30 and 09:45, which allows for an early morning stroll on the beach or a late lie in. Guests are welcome to request an earlier breakfast, by prior arrangement, from 08:00 onwards.
After a day of sightseeing, lazing at the beach, or languishing at our guesthouse plunge pool, you can help yourself to complimentary coffee, tea and confectionaries. Afternoon tea is available from 14:00 until 16:00, upstairs in the guesthouse lounge.
